What do you see?

Scented roses and shrubs make this
a place to remember, not to grieve.
The falling leaves of autumn
carpet grassy paths and marble steps
reminding us that all living things die.
As is always Nature’s way.

Within these walls lie
the remains of those who
gave their lives for freedom.
Trees stand sentinel, branches
embrace regimented rows of
stark white headstones.

Lest we forget the price paid,
and the sacrifices made.
These were men and boys
far from home and scared,
and their deaths were not natural.
